So, if you&#8217;re looking for something to do in Santa Fe, this list will keep you busy!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rickyallen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>If you&#8217;re thinking about moving to Santa Fe in order to enjoy these museums and other cultural activities year-round, visit Ricky Allen&#8217;s website to find exciting home listings.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Museums in Downtown Santa Fe<\/h2>\n<h3>Begin at the Palace of the Governors<\/h3>\n<p>Starting in Santa Fe Plaza, there\u2019s the Palace of the Governors, now included as a major part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmhistorymuseum.org\">New Mexico History Museum<\/a>, the perfect starting point to learn about the state&#8217;s past. The History Museum is an educational resource and local landmark, a destination for anyone who wants to understand the diverse experiences, relationships, and dynamics of the people who have shaped New Mexico.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Museum of Art exhibits traditional to contemporary art<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Just a block west of the Palace is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmartmuseum.org\">New Mexico Museum of Art<\/a>. Housed in a Pueblo-Revival adobe building, it is the oldest art museum in the state and curates more than 20,000 works. This year, the museum opened the Vladem Contemporary Museum in the Railyard, dedicated to large-scale installations, multi-media projects, and even performance-based works of 21st-century artistic practices.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Georgia O\u2019Keeffe\u2019s New Mexico featured<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You\u2019ll find the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.okeeffemuseum.org\">Georgia O\u2019Keeffe Museum<\/a> on Johnson Street, a few blocks farther west of the plaza. This museum exhibits nearly 150 paintings and drawings of O\u2019Keefe, one of the most significant artists of the 20th century who made her home at New Mexico\u2019s Ghost Ranch.<\/p>\n<h2>Four Museums at Museum Hill<\/h2>\n<p>When you\u2019re finished enjoying Santa Fe\u2019s offerings around the plaza, you can travel two miles southeast to Santa Fe\u2019s Museum Hill. \u201cThis is where you\u2019ll find four of the city\u2019s most prestigious museums,\u201d Ricky says.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>New Mexico\u2019s Hispanic heritage on display<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spanishcolonial.org\">Museum of\u00a0 Spanish Colonial Art<\/a> showcases the cultural heritage of Hispanic New Mexico and its living traditions. Photo by Russo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/indianartsandculture.org\">The Museum of Indian Arts &amp; Culture<\/a> not only preserves and conserves but stages exhibits from the 75,000 objects in its collection, accentuating the artistic, cultural, and intellectual achievements of the diverse people of the Pueblos and tribal communities of the Southwest.<\/p>\n<p>Founded by Mary Cabot Wheelwright in 1937, the <a href=\"https:\/\/wheelwright.org\">Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian<\/a> focuses the sacred and ritualistic art of the Navajo Nation.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Folk Art brought from around the world<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The last of the Museum Hill facilities is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationalfolkart.org\">Museum of International Folk Art<\/a>, dedicated to preserving the artistic creativity of <em>folk<\/em> around the world. The museum\u2019s collection of 130,000 objects includes textiles, costumes, ceramics, wood carvings, paintings, jewelry, and other folk art representing artists on every continent.<\/p>\n<h2>Museums at the Railyard<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>El Museo is more than static art exhibits<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Railyard is home to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elmuseocultural.org\">El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe<\/a>. In its 30-year history, El Museo has grown from a 1,000-square-foot, dilapidated warehouse space into a 31,000-square-foot, multi-use building the director says \u201chosts a mind-boggling number of activities and presentations\u201d \u2014 including art, music, and theater.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Dynamic contemporary art<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sitesantafe.org\">SITE Santa Fe<\/a>, also located in the Railyard, is a dynamic museum for artistic innovation. Since its founding in 1995, has presented 11 biennials \u2014 international showcases for contemporary art \u2014 and more than 90 contemporary art exhibitions. Its House of Eternal Return is a unique, exploratory space formed from a collaboration of over 100 artists. It&#8217;s not your usual museum, but it&#8217;s an exciting experience!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What can you do with hot wax?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moeart.org\">The Museum of Encaustic Art<\/a> offers more than 450 works of art; 125 are currently on exhibit. If you\u2019re unfamiliar with this form of art, it involves mixing hot wax with colored pigments that are then applied to a surface, not all of which are flat surfaces. The result is unusual and engaging.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Between legislative sessions enjoy The Roundhouse\u2019s art<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t forget The Roundhouse,\u201d Ricky reminds. New Mexico\u2019s capitol is round \u2014 thus its name The Roundhouse. But there\u2019s more than just politics going on here. The capitol is home to the <a href=\"http:\/\/nmcapitolart.com\">Capitol Art Collection<\/a> \u2014 paintings, photography, mixed media, textiles, ceramics, glass, sculptures, and furniture, the work of more than 600 artists.
